Life Story: Martha Viña, 57; Native Of Havana, Cuba

Mrs. Martha Viña passed away on Feb. 27 after battling ovarian cancer for over two years. She passed peacefully at her home in Somerset surrounded by her family.

Martha was born on July 29, 1960 in Havana, Cuba and came to United States in 1969. She grew up in Queens, NY and graduated from Hunter College in 1981 with a degree in physical therapy. Martha worked in financial services for more than 15 years, the majority of the time at Morgan Stanley in Manhattan.

Her hobbies included listening to music, dancing salsa, going to the beach, watching TV and shopping, but she loved family gatherings more than anything, especially Thanksgiving.

Martha is survived by her husband of 32 years, Wilfredo Viña. Together they had two sons, Eric Viña and his wife Paula and Brendon Viña and his girlfriend Carleen. She is also survived by her brother Frank Perez-Giron and niece and goddaughter Kaitlyn Perez-Giron, her father-in-law and mother-in law Wilfredo Viña Sr. and Silvia Viña, her sister-in-law Sylvia Salony and her husband Michael Salony, her nephew Mark Lagares and his wife Amy, and her niece and goddaughter Jessica Salony.

Visiting will take place from 5-9 p.m. March 1 at the Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton St. A funeral service will take place 10:30 a.m. March 2 at the funeral home and interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Queens NY.
