Life Story: Magdalena Santiago, 82; Native Of Puerto Rico

Mrs. Magdalena Santiago passed away on Jan. 8 in New Brunswick. She was 82 years old.

Mrs. Santiago was born in Rincon, Puerto Rico and lived in the Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens before moving to Somerset in 1997. She was a parishioner of St. Matthias Church. She cherished time spent with her loving children and grandchildren and was always certain to provide a nice home for her them and her husband, Miguel.

She was predeceased by her parents, Dimas and Felicita .

Mrs. Santiago is survived by her husband of 64 years, Miguel Santiago and their children, Miguel Santiago Jr., Tony Santiago and his wife Nancy, Eric Santiago and his wife Mercedes and Eddie Santiago. She is also survived by her brother, William Martinez and sisters Vina Ruiz and America Mercado and her grandchildren, Eva and her husband Joseph, Tony II and his wife Jennifer, Christopher, Matthew, Gabriela and Roberto and her great grandchildren, Melody, Annaliese, Emma, Tomas and Isabella.

Visiting will take place from 9-10 a.m. on Jan. 12 at the Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton St., followed by a 10 :30 a.m. funeral mass at St. Matthias Church in Somerset. Interment will follow at Franklin Memorial Park in North Brunswick.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mrs. Santiago’s name may be made to The American Lung Association, COPD Foundation, Regency Heritage nursing home (Somerset) or a charity of one’s choice.
