Life Story: John G. Pallay, 81; Former US Marine, Lifelong Somerset Resident

John G. Pallay, 81, died Jan. 7 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.

Mr. Pallay was born June 15, 1936 in East Brunswick to the late John and Margaret (Bucko) Pallay. He was a lifelong resident of Somerset.

John attended Mount Saint Mary’s College and earned a bachelor’s degree in Education. Shortly after graduating he was commissioned by President Eisenhower into the Marine Corps as a 2nd Lieutenant, stationed in Camp Pendleton, Ca. He honorably served in the Marines from 1958 to 1961. John also earned his Master’s in Education from Kings College. He was a member of the American Legion.

Mr. Pallay was a school teacher for JFK High School in Iselin for 32 years. John loved to fish, do crossword puzzles, read, and watch little league games; most of all, he treasured watching his grandchildren play sports.

John is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Helen (Mate) Pallay of Somerset; his sons, Tim Pallay of Beachwood and Chris Pallay of Somerset; his daughter, Kristen Wood and her husband Paul of Mount Pleasant, SC.; his brother, Joseph Pallay of Hillsborough; his grandchildren, Timothy, Brandon, Courtney, Patrick, and Brett; his great grandchildren, Gabriella and LJay, and many nieces and nephews

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Jan. 12 at the Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton St.

Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Jan. 13 at St. Matthias Church in Somerset. Entombment will follow at Franklin Memorial Park Mausoleum in North Brunswick.
