Life Story: Elizabeth Kelly, 81; Formerly Of Somerset

Elizabeth Ann (nee Cash) Kelly, of Princeton, formerly of Somerset, affectionately known as “Betty”, “Mommy”, “Aunt Boo” and “Gommy,” died peacefully on Nov. 7, surrounded by her family after a courageous 25-year battle with cancer.

Betty was 81 years old and was born in Jersey City during the Great Depression. Betty was the daughter of the late Raymond and Agnes Cash. Betty is survived by the father of her children, Henry David Kelly, her six children and their spouses, Henry, Eleanor, Raymond and Shellie Davis, Timothy, Mary Agnes and Douglas Brodowski, Brendan and his partner Conrad Hanson, her loving Grandchildren and their spouses, Stephanie and her husband Clinton, Timothy, Samantha, Alex, Grace, Matthew and James, her siblings Joyce Desfosse, Raymond Cash and his wife Sharon, and by many, many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.

Betty had a fierce faith in God and a tremendous and infectious sense of humor. She loved and was loved by all she met.

Betty was proud of her Irish heritage, hosting neighborhood St. Patrick’s Day parties – cooking and serving her famous Corned Beef, Cabbage and Irish Soda Bread. Betty later took those culinary skills to her son’s business in New Brunswick, NJ – Kelly’s Korner Bar, where she would tirelessly serve the many New Brunswick locals and Rutgers students on her favorite holiday for years.

In addition to raising her 6 children, Betty was employed full-time retiring from Bank of America (originally Franklin State Bank) after a successful 20+ year career. In her later years she became an avid Facebook poster, author of the blog Rantings from a Crazy Old White Woman and known to many, as a Patriot who loved her country, The United States of America – and who was not afraid to share her views.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 11:30 am, with a viewing prior starting at 10am at The Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton St, Somerset, NJ 08873. There will be an “Irish Wake” following the service at the residence of her son, Timothy – directions will be provided at the Service. Please contact the funeral home for further details if needed.
