Life Story: Eleanor Ubry, 88; Founding Parishioner Of St. Matthias

Mrs. Eleanor Ubry passed away on July 21 in Gastonia, North Carolina. She was 88 years old.

Mrs. Ubry was born in New Brunswick and was a longtime resident of Franklin Township. She relocated to Gastonia, North Carolina about 10 years ago.

She was a founding parishioner of St. Matthias church in Somerset. Mrs. Ubry was a longtime active member of the Middlebush Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She was the office manager of the family business, Ubry’s Service Station in Highland Park. She was also one of the original waitresses at the Colonial Farms Restaurant in Somerset.

She was pre-deceased by her husband Donald Sr. in 2007.

Mrs. Ubry is survived by her children, Carol Richards and her husband Bruce of Michigan, Donald Ubry Jr. and his wife Judy of Somerset, Susan Newell and her husband Harry of TN., and Laura Kurowski of NC. She is also survived by her siblings, Lou Puskas and his wife Fran of Barnegat, Rose Petrosky and her husband Al of FL., and Linda Richards and her husband Wayne also of Fl., and her grandchildren Michael, Jonathan, Elizabeth, Andrew, Corrine and Ian.

Visiting will take place from 9-10 a.m. July 27 at the Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton St., Somerset, followed by a 10:30 a.m. funeral mass at St. Matthias Church in Somerset. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery.
