Life Story: Edward J. Coury, Sr., 90; Lifelong Somerset Resident

Edward J Coury, Sr., 90, of Somerset passed away July 15 at home, surrounded by his family.

He was born at home in Somerset to Nassif Coury and Agnes Habib. He was proud of the home that he and his wife built together.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years Bernice (Hague) Coury, and his children Kathleen Coury-Maixner and husband Christopher Maixner of Somerset, Cindy Housel and husband Ed Housel of South Bound Brook, Edward Coury Jr of Toms River, and Jenny Kraft and her husband Kevin Kraft of Somerset, and six grandchildren, Kevin KC Kraft, Jonathan Kraft, Jordyn Coury, Evan Coury, Elizabeth Maixner and Christopher Maixner Jr and sisters Helen Wolf and Louise Hague, both of Somerset.

Ed was a self-employed plumber, owner of Ed Coury Plumbing and Heating. He enjoyed hunting, boating, and weekends and vacations with family and friends. He loved being outside taking care of his house that he built on his parents’ land.
He served in the Army in World War II and was a member of the American Legion.

His legacy is that of a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and his influence and guidance has molded many a young person. He was always there to help anyone and helped build many of our homes. He cherished time with his family and loved being outdoors.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. July 19 at Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton St., Somerset.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. July 20 at the Gleason Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in East Millstone.
