Life Story: Corrine ‘Chiara’ Sosnowski, 73; Taught At Pine Grove Manor Elementary School

Corrine “Chiara” Sosnowski, 73, died May 23 at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in Rahway.

Born June 8, 1943 in Long Branch, Mrs. Sosnowski was the daughter of the late Anthony and Josephine (Canella) D’Apolito. Corrine lived in Monroe Township, and prior to that was a longtime resident of Somerset.

Corrine earned a BA in Education from Monmouth College, and for decades taught elementary school students at Pine Grove Manor in Somerset as well as other schools. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Matthias Church, and most recently a parishioner of St. James Church in Jamesburg.

She loved to travel, sing, dance, and cook, and never missed a chance to celebrate around the table with her friends and family. She was a leader in her community – serving as a board member for her development’s Italian American Club, Red Hats Chapter, and Singles Club, and in Somerset on the Executive Board of the Cedar Hill Swim Club.

Mrs. Sosnowski was preceded in death her loving husband, Frank Sosnowski.

She is survived by her daughter, Donna Glen and her husband Jim of Berkeley Heights; her son, Michael Sosnowski and his wife Tammy of Wynnewood, Pa.; her brothers, Nicholas D’Apolito and his wife JoAnn and Anthony D’Apolito and his wife Terri; her sister, Joanne Buono and her husband Frank; her grandchildren Alex, Ryan, Christopher, and Claire, and her beloved nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may visit from 4-8 p.m. on May 25 at Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton St.

A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. on May 26 at St. Matthias Church in Somerset. Burial and committal services will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Piscataway.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Mrs. Corrine “Chiara” Sosnowski’s name to the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer’s Association.
