Life Story: Beatrice R. Spulick, 82; Longtime RWJUMC Switchboard Operator

Mrs. Beatrice R. Spulick passed away Feb. 17 in Cranbury. She was 82 years old.

Born in Cumberland Center, Maine to Ernest and Hazel Frye, Beatrice lived for a time in Piscataway before settling in Somerset in 1960.

Mrs. Spulick worked as a switchboard operator at Robert Wood Johnson University Medical Center in New Brunswick for more than 34 years, retiring in 1999. She enjoyed camping trips to Maine, painting by numbers, and was a talented latch-hook artist. Most of all, she cherished time spent with her beloved family.

Mrs. Spulick was predeceased by her parents and by her sons, Jerry in 1983, and Edgar in 2007.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Lawrence Spulick; by their children: Phillip, Rowena and her husband Steve, Ronald and his wife Lisa, Donna and her husband William, Joseph and his wife Debbie, and Charlie and his wife Cathy; by her brother, Albert Frye and sister Evelyn Thurston; by her 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; and by a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends.
