Life Story: Angela Palmitessa Leccese, 108; Former Somerset Resident
Angela Palmitessa Leccese passed away on Tuesday at Ashley River Plantation Nursing Home in Charleston, S.C. at the age of 108.
She was born in Jersey City to James and Maria (Lacitignola) Palmitessa and lived in North Bergen as a child. Once she married she and her husband Frank moved to Milltown. The young couple also lived in New Brunswick for a time before moving to Somerset where they spent many years together.
Mrs. Leccese was a homemaker, always certain to provide a comfortable home for her husband and children. She was a long-time parishioner at St. Peter’s Church in New Brunswick and Our Lady of Loudres Church in Milltown. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and volunteered her time at St. Peter’s Medical Center and at the Cenacle Retreat House.
Mrs. Leccese was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Frank Leccese and her brothers Cosmo, Rudolph, and Hugo Palmitessa.
She is survived by her daughters Maria Lund and her husband Carl of Milltown and Rita Tyler and her husband Richard of Summerville, South Carolina, her grandchildren Steven Tyler and his wife Pamela and Lauren Gray and her husband Dennis and a great grandson Frank Tyler.
Funeral services will begin at 10:15 a.m. October 16 at the Gleason Funeral Home 1360 Hamilton St., followed by an 11 a.m. funeral mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Milltown. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington.
