DeMott Lane.

It was still snowing in the villages as of about 9 a.m. Jan. 3. According to the National Weather Service, Franklin averaged about 6.2 inches, with 7 inches reported in Somerset..

Schools are closed, the municipal offices are open and Somerset County offices were scheduled to open at 10 a.m.

As of about 10 a.m., Public Service Electric & Gas was reporting no power outages in the township.

In preparation for the first large snowstorm of 2014, we went to Facebook and asked Franklin residents what they do to prepare. Here’s what some of them told us:

Kim Kiselyk: Went to Shop-Rite. Absolute mad house.

Anthony Mazzola: It’s just snow. The roads will be open soon after the snow stops. We’ve enough food for a few days.

Matt Clark: No reason to panic. It’s just snow.

Mary-Frances Chavez: Just got back from Stop and Shop with my French toast supplies (eggs, bread and milk). Stay warm out there!

Jen Putnoky: Pittsburgh is getting 2 FT. Eerie, 15”. 5-8” isn isn’t really THAT bad. Franklin has always done a great job clearing the roads. They’ll have the main roads and most secondary roads done by tomorrow night. In the 70’s we got at least one or two 10-15″ storms every winter!!

Stephanie Raman: I’m not worried about the snow, but I do plan to hide inside until it gets to a reasonable temperature again.

Gregory M. Budesheim: I went out and pre treated the roads with salt and put diesel fuel additives into my truck so it doesn’t sludge over now going to sleep before they call me in to push snow. (Works for dpw).

Dianne Persons Pydeski: My husband is putting some firewood by the back door (under a tarp) just in case we need/want a cozy fire tomorrow.
