La Bonbonniere ‘Kid’s Day’ Raises Money For Soup Kitchen

Kids day at le bonbonniere26Township children got a chance to show off their inner cake designer and help a local charity at the third annual La Bonbonniere Kid’s Day Aug. 3.

For a $5 donation, children aged 4 to 12 were given an apron, a chef’s hat and all the materials they needed to decorate a cake, which they later took home.

After decorating, pictures were taken of the cakes by store staff. The staff will then judge the best decorated cake in two age groups, and the grand prize winner will receive a custom birthday cake as well as four movie tickets.

In addition to the cake decoration, participants were treated to balloons, balloon animals and treats from the store.

All proceeds will benefit Elijah’s Promise, a New Brunswick soup kitchen.

The Somerset store, at the Franklin Commons shopping plaza on Elizabeth Avenue, is the first of four stores that will host the Kid’s Days. The other locations ar in Woodbridge, Edison and South Plainfield.

The Somerset store’s manager, Mike Roberts, said participation at this year’s event exceeded last year’s.

“We’re very excited,” he said. “The parents and kids alike seem to be having a great time.”
