Lady Warriors Fall To Gill St. Bernards In SCT Semi-Final

The FHS Lady Warriors fell to Gill St. Bernards Feb. 18 in the Somerset County Tournament semi-finals at Montgomery High School.

The Franklin High School Lady Warriors basketball team struggled for most of the game in their Somerset County Tournament semi-final game loss Feb. 18 to Gil St. Bernards.

Gill won the game handily, 69-55, and will now face top-seeded Rutgers Prep in the finals at FHS.

After a slow start by both teams, Franklin seemed to be getting its groove, taking a brief lead in the first quarter, which ended with the teams knotted at 10. But it didn’t take long for Gill to take advantage of some costly turnovers and hit some key free throws in the second quarter, and with about two minutes left in the first half, the Knights had built a 10-point lead, 26-16.

Franklin tried to chip away at that lead, but the Knights struck back, forcing turnovers and taking advantage of free throws in a very physical game.

For the Warriors, sophomore Diamond Miller and Freshman Kennedy Schenck led scorers with 15-points each, including four 3-pointers by Schenck.

Miller scored seven from the foul line, and added four field goals.

Following are some scenes from the game.
