In Your Opinion: Writer Supports Seamon For Board of Education
By Bill Connell, Somerset.
If you look at Home Depot Do-It Yourself Book, it gives approximate times it takes to do different tasks. Depending on your skill level the time can double or triple.
The Board of Education is not just about books and kids. They have to weigh in on a broad spectrum of ideas from a textbook to land use issues. It is helpful and productive to have a broad skill set on the board.
Rich Seamon is running for the school board again. He has the ability, knowledge and caring to discuss a broad range of school board topics, but his main strength is facilities. I am on the township Open Space Advisory Committee and he is on the board of the Franklin Township Soccer Club. The journey we have taken together during the construction of Middlebush Park has allowed me to understand his level of caring. Just recently we discussed the placement of buffer trees. It’s a small detail but he noticed.
I have volunteered for the district performing arts programs for many years and building a set for play has enormous detail and you have to be mindful of cost. The voters of Franklin have entrusted the school board with an $84 million dollar construction budget; I can only imagine the details of the school expansion project. Over the summer I was in and out of a few schools. The work has only begun and its amazing the logistics that need to take place.
In a previous term on the board Rich Seamon was heavily involved in the strategic plan, long range facility plan and in developing what became the One Less Move referendum. To not waste money, I think the school board needs Rich to follow through. He will respect the $84 million dollars and constantly circle back to make sure the goals are met.
I am advocating for Rich in this letter but I am also reminding the Board of Education to respect the taxpayer support. I think the school board has a great deal of synergy now and is doing a good job. I wish everyone continued success.
