In Your Opinion: Send An Edible Arrangement, Not A Resolution

By Bill Connell, Somerset.

At the Nov. 8 Township Council meeting, I saw an attempt to change the narrative regarding Councilman Rajiv Prasad. They want to imply this is a personal attack. Sticking to the simple facts that is not the case. I am certain as early as May (but surely earlier), Councilman Prasad knew there was a issue with the planning process but that changed nothing. A lot of good things could have happened after that but nothing did, it rocketed down hill.

There is also a narrative that this is Republican trying to make council look bad. Tactically speaking this makes no sense. If the Democrats were to replace Prasad, it would take away the recall, and take away any talking points the Republicans have in the future. The Republicans should want him to stay put.

During public session, I complimented Councilman James Vassanella for his support of sidewalks. He seemed surprised I said anything nice after roughing him up over the statue discussion. Good is good, you can’t ignore that even if you disagree on another topic.

Along the same lines, I was at every public meeting regarding Cricket fields to support them. I had seen enough to support the project. I did not want to punish cricket players even if Councilman Prasad went too far. You win some , you lose some, you dust yourself off and play the next game.

This is what is missing from most discussion these days. Saying something nice or positive is now viewed as giving ground. Watching public session last night, I had a thought. As the recall movement grows, all sorts of different points of view will come into play. The core issue will become unrecognizable, much like many national conversations.

All people want is for Council to run well, and not play games. The world is a mess, people need to believe the problem does not start in Franklin.
