Hello, Ball! 41st Annual Robert G. Ransone Golf Classic Nears

Politicians and business leaders will gather Sept. 21 for the 41st running of the Robert G. Ransone Golf Classic at Raritan Valley Country Club, Route 28, Raritan.

What began in 1972 as a way to open up channels of communication between government and the business community has grown into the longest continually running golf event in the county, according to a release on the tournament.

The day will begin at 10 a.m. with registration and a buffet brunch, with a shotgun start scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Following the tournament, a cocktail reception and gourmet banquet with open bar and silent auction will begin at 5 p.m.

The tournament is named for Robert Ransone, who served as the county director of economic development in 1967 and was chairman of the Somerset County Chamber of Commerce, the predecessor organization to the event’s sponsor, the Somerset County Business Partnership. The low-score trophy is named in his honor.

“The Ransone Golf  Classic is recognized as the most important golf networking event in Somerset County and is a signature event of the Business Partnership,”  Business Partnership president/CEO Mike Kerwin said in the release. “It was the first event of its kind, bringing business and political leaders together for a relaxing day of golf and networking and has become the standard by which other business golf events are planned.”

The registration fees are $350 for individual golfers and $1,400 for a foursome. Sponsorships starting at $250 are available for businesses.
