Franklin Heat Set Fundraising Game

B3u9MUFIUAEMWGQ.jpg-largeThe Franklin Heat Traveling Basketball program will hold a fundraising basketball game from 7-8:30 p.m. Feb. 27 at Sampson G. Smith Intermediate School, 1649 Amwell Rd.

The game, called the “Terrance Barker Scholarship Classic,” will raise money for the program’s Terrance Barker Scholarship Fund and will pit players against their coaches.

Barker, who was a coach in the program since 2012, died in January.

“It was quite unusual for Terrance to become so involved because he had no kids in the program,” Ron Jordan, the Heat’s director of basketball, said in an email. “He coached the Under-11 5th grade team and moved up each year to eventually coach a Under 13 team of 7th graders.”

“Terrance not only coached basketball, he breathed it, attending coaching clinics during his spare time and numerous high school games to not only learn more but improve his coaching ability and what he was able to give back the kids,” Jordan wrote. “The Franklin Heat organization is stronger because of coach Terrance and he will be missed by coaches and kids alike.”

The suggested donation is $5; all proceeds will go to the scholarship fund.
