Four Somerset residents are among the 11 Rutgers Preparatory School flutists accompanying acclaimed flutist James Galway Dec. 5 in a Carnegie Hall performance.

The students – Teresa Heath, Jennifer Rihacek, William Rubinstein, and Arthi Vaidyanathan – and their RPS classmates are among 20 student musicians accompanying Galway on “Jingle Bells” and “Deck the Hall” during the famed New York City hall’s presentation of “The American Christmas Carol.”

The students will be known collectively as the Galway Junior Flute Choir.

Also performing is a full orchestra and a 200-voice choir, according to a release about the event.

The 11 RPS students will be joined by two other students of RPS music teacher Lisa Johnson and seven students from a New York City music school.

“I’ve seen extraordinary things happen in these three weeks,” Johnson said of the students in the release. “Their level of playing, their attention span, attention to detail and their performance etiquette are on a very high level.”

Other RPS students performing are Ebun Adewunmi of Bound Brook, Alex Schmid and Nicholas Chafos of Bridgewater, Phillip Aymes of Monmouth Junction, Carla Evans of North Brunswick, Andrew Lorello of Piscataway and Shrishti Ramkumar of South Plainfield.
