FHS Warrior Football Falls To Westfield, But Doesn’t Make It Easy

FHS wide receiver Tykey Reinberry sprints to a touchdown Sept. 22 in the second quarter against the Westfield Blue Devils.

The Franklin High School football Warriors put up a good fight for three quarters of their Sept. 22 game against Westfield High School, but could not overcome the damage done by several costly penalties.

The Westfield Blue Devils extended their unbeaten streak to 28 games in the 23-7 win over Franklin, a score that doesn’t do justice to the Warriors’ effort.

Franklin only trailed by two points – 9-7 – for better than half the game. A 48-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Antonio Scott to wide receiver Tykey Reinberry in the second quarter fired up the Warriors and their fans, enthusiasm that was fanned by the Warrior’s defensive unit pretty much shutting down Westfield for three quarters.

But Franklin could not overcome Westfield’s main weapon, sophomore running back Tim Alliegro. In only his second start, Alliegro ran for 181 yards and scored 18 of the Blue Devils’ 21 points.

Franklin was also not helped by some untimely penalties, including three on 3rd-and-short that gave the Blue Devils free first downs.

The loss drops the Warriors to 1-2 on the season.
