FHS Lady Warriors Fall To Rutgers Prep In Season Opener

Lady Warrior Diamond Miller gets off a shot during the Dec. 19 season-opener against Rutgers Prep.

The Franklin High School Lady Warriors’ basketball team kicked off the 2017-18 campaign with a heartbreaking loss to cross-town rivals, Rutgers Prep.

The defending state champions fought until the end, but Rutgers Prep was able to squeak by with a 47-44 win.

The win was something of a payback for the Argonauts from last season; Franklin was the only team that beat them, including in the Tournament of Champions.

Rutgers Prep dominated the first two quarters, leading 27-16 at the half.

But the Lady Warriors came out roaring in the third quarter, outscoring Rutgers Prep 20-6 and leading 36-33 by the end of the frame. Tough defense and some smart, sharp shooting by the Lady Warriors took the Argonauts off their game.

In the fourth quarter, Rutgers Prep outscored Franklin 14-8 to take the game.
