The East Franklin Fire Department is looking to the public to help one of their own.

Fire fighter Jhon Lopez, a Highland Avenue resident, lost all of the tools he uses in his contracting business during a Dec. 12 fire at his home.

Lopez tried to beat back the fire on his own until fire fighters arrived, but his garage was destroyed, said Ryan Daughton, president of the East Franklin department.

“We are trying to get him money to buy new tools so he can continue to work to make money for his family,” Daughton said in an email.

All of Lopez’s belongings, except the tools, are covered by insurance, Daughton said.

Daughton has established a GoFundMe campaign for Lopez, the goal of which is to raise $1,250.
