Ducks Rally Past Patriots 6-5

MAY30thGRAPHICCentral Islip, NY – The Long Island Ducks (18-14) defeated the Somerset Patriots (21-13) 6-5 Friday evening from Bethpage Ballpark in walk-off fashion. The Ducks rallied for three runs in the home half of the ninth inning to win the series opener.

 

In the bottom of the third inning second baseman Cody Puckett sliced a RBI single to give Long Island an early 1-0 advantage.

 

Somerset scored four runs in the ensuing half inning to take a 4-1 lead. Right fielder Luis Montanez slashed a RBI double, third baseman Corey Smith plated a run via a RBI groundout, and first baseman Ty Wright pounded a two run home run (3).

 

Long Island scratched across a run in the bottom of the fourth frame as left fielder Adam Bailey hit a RBI groundout making the contest 4-2.

 

The Patriots added a run in the top of the seventh inning when left fielder Aharon Eggleston drove home a run via a RBI fielder’s choice increasing the lead to 5-2.

 

First baseman Joash Brodin hit a RBI groundout in the home half of the eighth inning making the score 5-3.

 

In the bottom of the ninth inning pinch hitter Sergio Miranda smacked a game tying two RBI double and Brodin socked a walk-off RBI single as the Ducks won 6-5.

 

Josh Lansford (2-1) earned the win in relief. Jon Hunton (0-1) suffered the loss in relief.
