Ducks Power Past Patriots In Day Game Of Double Header

Bridgewater, NJ-   The Long Island Ducks (23-15, 59-49) defeated the Somerset Patriots (18-19, 60-47) 7-3 in the day game of a day-night double header at TD Bank Ballpark on Wednesday.

The Patriots took an early 1-0 lead on an error in the first inning.

The Ducks grabbed the lead in the top of the third inning on an RBI single by Angelo Songco and an RBI double by Elmer Reyes that made the score 2-1.

Long Island broke the game open in the top of the fifth inning on a grand slam by Giovanny Alfonzo (3) for a 6-1 advantage.

“We were playing with fire all day. From the first inning on when they had the bases loaded,” said Somerset Patriots manager Brett Jodie. “We really held them down and minimized for a long period of time, but then gave up the big blow and that was the difference.”

Carlos Guzman launched a two-run home run (4) in the bottom of the sixth inning to cut the lead to 6-3.

The Ducks added a run to the lead in the top of the seventh inning on a solo home run by Elmer Reyes (4) for the 7-3 final.

Matt Larkins (7-6) picked up the complete game win, striking out 12 batters and giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits over seven innings. A.J. Achter (2-1) suffered the loss, allowing two earned runs on four hits in two innings pitched.
