District Updates List Of Areas Too Hazardous For Students To Walk To School


The school district has an updated list of areas it considers too dangerous for children to walk to school.

The list was approved at the Board of Education’s Aug. 23 meeting.

Streets contained in the prior policy “were a little dated,” board spokeswoman Mary Clark said. “This is also a reflection of changes in attendance zones.”

Students whose route to school is covered in the list will be given bus transportation by the district, even if they live within the “courtesy busing” zone threshold.

The new list of hazardous areas includes:

Franklin High School – All students due to lack of sidewalks and traffic conditions.

Franklin Middle School at Sampson G. Smith Campus – The following students due to lack of sidewalks; traffic conditions or lack of crossing guards:

  • Students who travel along, or across Amwell Road from the South to the 2 mile limit Students who travel along Amwell Road from the North to the 2 mile limit
    Students who travel on the following streets North of Amwell Road:
  • Wilson Road; McGuffy Avenue; French Street; Wade Avenue; Charles Street; Lynch Street; Hunters Crossing Road; Nicole Drive; Michaelangelo Ct; Masada Street; Gauguin Way;
  • Treptow Road; Rue Matisse; Rue Cezanne; Renoir Way;
  • Willow Avenue; Smithwold Road; Aldeburgh Avenue; Waterlou Court; Edgeware Court; Classon Court; Cheshire Court; Bloomsbury Court; Inwood Court; St. Giles Court; Dickens Court; Wisbech Place; Bamburgh Court; Coldspring Court; Tintern Court; Harrow Drive; Jordans Circle; Skipton Place
  • Whitby Circle; Stonehedge Court; Bolton Court; Marlow Court; Aimwick Court; Kristall Court; Hexham Drive and Epping Court

Students who travel along, or on New Brunswick Road from Willow Avenue to the 2 mile limit.

Students who travel on the following streets East of Demott Lane:

  • Fairfield Road; Emerson Road; Cambridge Lane; Cherry Wood Drive; Almond Drive; Driftwood Drive; Chestnut Circle; Pine Oak Lane; Hickory Road; Hemlock Lane; Pincrest Drive; Bayberry Drive; Ellison Road; Gates Road; Levinson Boulevard; Scaletti Court and Newton Court.

Students who travel on or cross Hamilton Street from the South to the two-mile limit.
