County Freeholders Award Contract For Replacing Steep Hill Brook Bridge

brook bridgeA Lafayette-based contractor has been tapped to replace the Steep Hill Brook Bridge on Blackwells Mills Road.

The contract was awarded by the Somerset County Freeholders at their May 13 meeting.

Sparwick Contracting was given the $668,604 contract.

Eight bidders submitted proposals for the job, according to the resolution.

The project is expected to start in mid-July, and will require Blackwells Mills Road to be closed between South Middlebush and Van Cleef roads for about 2 1/2 months, according to the county engineering department.

Detours wil be established and posted, and variable message signs will be deployed to assist drivers.

The work will not start until the Weston Causeway Canal Bridge project is finished, and the road re-opened, according to the county engineering department.
