Corey Smith Walk Off Wins It For Patriots

62414gameBridgewater, NJ- Corey Smith’s walk off double in the bottom of the ninth inning led the Somerset Patriots to a 6-5 win over the Bridgeport Bluefish before 5,707 fans at TD Bank Ballpark on Tuesday night.

 

Aharon Eggleston drew a one out walk and stole second to move into scoring position. After Mike Wilson also reached on a walk, Smith blasted the game winning double to the gap in left center.

 

The Bluefish took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second on a two-run home run by Denny Almonte (5).

 

Bridgeport added three more runs in the top of the third on an RBI double by James Simmons and sacrifice flies by Ramon Castro and Joe Mather to make the score 5-0.

 

Somerset cut the lead to 5-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning. Two runs scored on an error by right fielder Prentice Redman and Ty Wright drove home a run with a single.

 

The Patriots made it a 5-4 game in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single by Wilson.

 

Patriots starter Erik Arnesen (7-3) picked up the complete game win, allowing five runs-four earned- on six hits. Bridgeport reliever Winston Abreu (0-3) suffered the loss, allowing two runs on a hit in 0.1 innings pitched.

 

The 2014 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will on the road until Monday, June 30th when the Patriots return to TD Bank Ballpark for a 7:05 pm game against the Lancaster Barnstormers.
