Big 6th Inning Leads To 8-3 Win For Somerset

51215newsBridgewater, NJ – The Somerset Patriots (10-6) defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers (6-13) 8-3 Tuesday evening from TD Bank Ballpark.

 

In the top of the first inning right fielder Blake Gailen poked a RBI single to give Lancaster a 1-0 advantage.

 

A RBI single by third baseman Tyler Bortnick extended Lancaster’s lead to 2-0 in the top of the third inning.

 

Center fielder Jonny Tucker roped a game tying two RBI double in the ensuing half inning to tie the contest at 2-2.

 

Right fielder Chris Marrero pounded a home run (2) to give Somerset a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning.

 

The Barnstormers evened the score at 3-3 in the top of the sixth inning as first baseman Dan Coury hit a RBI sacrifice fly.

 

The Patriots exploded for five runs in the home half of the sixth inning to grab a 8-3 lead. Catcher James Skelton and designated hitter Thomas Neal each ripped RBI doubles. Another run scored via a Tucker RBI sacrifice fly and two more were plated by errors by the catcher and left fielder.

 

Sean Bierman (1-1) earned the win tossing six innings while surrendering one earned run. Nate Reed (0-1) suffered the loss in relief.
