More than 50 pounds of excess Halloween candy was collected earlier this month from area children by a Somerset dentist.

The candy is bound for American troops serving overseas.

Dr. Joseph Haddad of Advanced Dental Arts, 738 Easton Ave., paid $5 per pound for the candy, he said in a release about the event.

“Each of us at Advanced Dental Arts wrote a personal ‘thank you’ card to the troops and enclosed them with the candy,” he said in the release.

“We are very pleased with the event and will be looking forward to hosting it once again next year, Haddad said.
