Update: Township Man Seriously Injured After Deer Crashes Through Car’s Windshield

Update: Police said that Mark Rodgers died from his injuries at 2:50 p.m. on Nov. 28.

Original Story: A 63-year-old township man was listed in serious condition Nov. 25, one day after a deer crashed through his car’s windshield on South Middlebush Road.

Police said that Mark Rodgers of Somerset was driving his 2017 Hyundai Elantra on South Middlebush, just north of Beekman Road, at about 5:37 on Nov. 24 when it struck a large buck deer crossing the road.

The deer crashed through the Elentra’s windshield, struck Rodgers and settled in the car’s back seat.

Rodgers was taken to a local area trauma center for treatment of serious injuries, police said.

South Middlebush Road was closed in both directions for about four hours while the crash was investigated by members of the township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Bureau.
